All the World’s a Stage at Civic Trust House!
For the second Cork Culture Night, the arts companies at Civic Trust House will throw open the doors to this historic building and invite the city in for a visit with a difference. The resident companies are working together to present a night of encounters where visitors will discover the building and its inhabitants in surprising ways through drama, music, film and poetry, closing with a re-invention of the good old Parlour Party.
A specially-devised set of theatre scenarios will be installed in many of the rooms in the house, thanks to the creativity of actors from at least 6 theatre companies* in the city, under the guidance of Corcadorca’s Pat Kiernan. Shirley McClure, 2009 winner of the Bradshaw Books Manuscript Competition will be reading from her work as guest of Tigh Filí. Cork Film Centre will be showing a selection of locally-produced films and video art, while music will be provided by Cork Chamber Choir (guests of Cork International Choral Festival), cellist Ilse de Ziah (guest of Irish Association of Youth Orchestras), jazz from Darktown Strutters (guests of Cork Jazz Festival) and guests of Cork Folk Festival.
A special children’s programme will run from 12noon until 4pm, with Tigh Filí presenting Eurochild Poetry and Art, which will include readings from the 2009 Eurochild Anthology, display of artwork from the book and a poetry workshop for children with Tina Pisco. The Mad Hatters Tea Party will follow, when Alice will ask some daring questions… and following that Cork Film Centre will present children’s animation demonstration.
Last year’s Culture Night saw 600 visitors to the 300-year-old house on Pope’s Quay and the hosts are putting on their aprons in the expectation of even more this year. Locally -sourced hot food will be available for purchase at Mark Price ’s market stall where he’ll be serving sweet and savoury crêpes as well as O’Flynn’s gourmet sausages throughout the evening, while Marquaha Coffee will keep us buzzing with a large range of hot drinks. At 11pm visitors are encouraged to dust off their party pieces for an old-fashioned Parlour Party!
