Cork Jazz Festival has become one of Ireland’s most successful and internationally renowned cultural events since it was first held in 1977. It brings a host of stars to Cork and each year thousands of visitors come to Cork to enjoy a festival hosting the cream of the world’s jazz artists and sharing the city’s renowned hospitality.
The price of that success is that there is not really room for more activity over the weekend, so in recent years the Cork Jazz Festival committee has developed Cork Jazz Festival Week.
The big fringe produces a range of events in the lead up to the Festival weekend – visits to schools and hospitals, marching bands on the streets and in city hubs.
