Want to produce your own arts event? Get started film-making? Learn a tune on the box? Express yourself through poetry? Take a walking cultural tour? Join a choir for a lunchtime? Civic Trust House is delighted to announce our free public programme for the 2010 Cork Lifelong Learning Festival!
Civic Trust House, the beautiful building at 50 Pope's Quay known locally as the Dolls’ House, is home to 8 professional arts organisations thanks to the support of Cork City Council’s Arts Office. For this year’s Lifelong Learning Festival we are delighted to offer a range of free events throughout the week March 22 nd-26 th that give a taste of our enthusiasm for the arts in Cork and opportunities for anyone to take part in some creative activities.
Places for all events in this year’s Lifelong Learning Festival are limited due to space - advance booking is highly recommended!
MONDAY 22ND MARCH

1-2pm Cork Film Centre presents: Introduction to Film-Making
Tutor Ciara Hyland, who teaches courses in Documentary and Short film-making for Cork Film Centre, will give an intro session for anyone interested in getting started making their own films.
2-3.30pm Cork Film Centre presents: Introduction to Film-Making and Cork Film Centre
Repeat session with Ciara Hyland (see above) followed by an overview of the resources available to all film-makers, amateur and professional, through Cork Film Centre.
5.30pm – 7.00pm Cork Midsummer Festival presents: So you want to be...an Arts Producer? Programmer? Director?
Interested in a career behind the scenes rather than centre stage? Put your questions to a panel of arts managers from Cork Midsummer Festival and get to find out what it’s like in the hot seat, how they got to where they are now and what the highs and lows are. Whether you are starting out or are having a mid career re-think or are just interested in finding out more then join us.
TUESDAY 23RD MARCH

12-1pm Cork International Choral Festival presents: Choral Sounds
Director John Fitzpatrick will present an eclectic selection of some of his favourite choral sounds, and share with you the thoughts and meanderings of a choral aficionado! This session promises a relaxing hour to sit back and listen, and will enlighten both choral diehards and newcomers alike.
1-2.30pm Cork Folk Festival presents: All about Accordion
A hands-on workshop on the C#D Irish Accordion. Think Jackie Daly, Joe Cooley and Sharon Shannon who all play the rhythmic, old push-and-draw style of the C#D box with great effect. The workshop will include a history of the box and a number of accordions will be available for those who want to learn a tune or two. The workshop will be given by William Hammond box player with the band Munster Buttermilk.
WEDNESDAY 24TH MARCH

11-12pm Tigh Fili presents: Youth Poetry Workshop (age 12-15) with Tina Pisco. Places limited: please book ahead on 021 4215 175
1-2pm Cork Jazz Festival presents: Dyslexia and Music
An illustrated talk on the challenges and benefits of learning music for dyslexics, people with learning difficulties and those who do not read music using the opportunities offered by today’s technology. The talk will be given by Tom Mulcahy (LGSM, BA, MA ), a jazz guitarist, whose success in overcoming these challenges has allowed him to study to Masters level.

2.15-5pm Civic Trust House presents: Walking Tour - The Northside Cultural Quarter 
Join guide Clare Cogan for a stroll around some of the Northside’s cultural hotspots, meeting hosts at Civic Trust House, the Firkin Crane, Cork Community Art Link, The Guesthouse, Camden Palace, Basement Project Space and Cork Arts Theatre.
FRIDAY 26TH MARCH 
1.15: Cork International Choral Festival and the Association of Irish Choirs presents: Join a choir – just for one lunchtime!
Led by musical director Liz Powell of the Association of Irish Choirs this fun session will be a taster of what takes place during choir rehearsal and a lunchtime sing-along where you’ll learn some of the basic techniques used by choirs for yourself. No experience necessary!
